They're the same parts on the inside, same cpu, gpu and ram. Not a bad swap if theyre the same storage size and you prefer the look/feel of the plastic 5c

Keep your black 5. White phones are gross and if you want something that is actually an upgrade go with a new Android phone early next year. Love my Galaxy 4 so far. Bigger screen, still works for one thumb, more diverse app choices. iPhones ruled a few years ago but the field is far from level these days.

As Beetsbynelly said, they are the same phone (except for storage - you didn't say how much each phone had). Apple released the "ALL NEW 5C!!!" but it's just an iPhone 5 in a new wrapper.

I don't suppose there is any harm if they are the same size (or if your buddy's has more storage) you won't be getting a worse phone in the trade.
